IncisionTech and Patton Surgical Win Prestigious Medical Design Excellence Award
Staunton, VA - April 11, 2006 - IncisionTech today announced that the recent contract manufacturing work that it has done for Patton Surgical on an innovative new surgical device is being recognized with a Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA).
The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is the premier awards program for the medical technology community, recognizing the achievements of medical product manufacturers and the many people behind the scenes - engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians - who are responsible for the groundbreaking innovations that are changing the face of healthcare. The program is open worldwide to companies and individuals involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or medical packaging.
Patton Surgical, the device OEM, has received FDA 510k approval and the CE Mark on the PassPort Shielded Trocar and is now selling the device to surgeons worldwide. IncisionTech worked for Patton Surgical as a key supplier of the critical cutting components used in the new device. The laparoscopic access device is equipped with two shields that cover a unique cutting blade. The unique blade allows for smoother penetration of the abdominal wall and "Blunt" entry into the abdominal cavity. Leading surgeons and teaching hospitals are endorsing the PassPort Shielded Trocar as a "safer" alternative to traditional trocars. As a winning company, IncisionTech will be presented with its award at the upcoming MDEA ceremony. This event will be held on June 7th during the Medical Design & Manufacturing East 2006 Conference and Exposition, in New York City.
