Endoscopic scissor complaints eliminated through application of new edge finishing process invented by IncisionTech
Ever had a pair of scissors that would not cut or would not cut smoothly? This very frustrating scenario was being played out by numerous surgeons who were using the endoscopic scissors from a major medical device OEM. The question was “what was causing the failure to cut?”

A review of the current manufacturing process revealed that the scissors were being ground on a grinder at the same local stamping company that was generating the formed blanks for the scissors. This grinding process generated a large amount of burr that was being only partially removed during a secondary operation (leaving a rough surface finish along the cutting edges).
IncisionTech produced a lot of scissors utilizing its proprietary CNC sharpening and edge finishing processes in concert with the IncisionLab. The functional results of more precise cutting edges with smoother surface finishes were dramatic! The problems associated with cutting were totally eliminated along with the concerns about cut quality. An added benefit to this solution was a lower total cost to the medical device OEM due to the reduction of scrap associated with “running in” and “tweeking” the final scissor assembly to assure goodness of cut.
