IncisionTech solves blood vessel cutting problem created by stamping house
Due to the fast pace of new cardiovascular medical device development, true optimized cutting performance is usually either a total afterthought or only brought to the attention of the design team after initial functional failures in testing. During a recent product launch, IncisionTech was contacted for guidance relating to poor cutting performance in a new medical device. Following in depth analysis in our IncisionLab of current blades, it became apparent that the cutting edge was simply not sharp enough to perform the task.
A review of the current manufacturing process revealed that the cutting edges were being generated on a grinder at a local stamping company. This process generated a large amount of burr that was being only partially removed during a manual buffing process, done as a secondary operation.
IncisionTech produced a lot of blades utilizing its proprietary CNC sharpening processes in concert with the IncisionLab. The functional results of more precise cutting edges were dramatic! The problems associated with cutting were totally eliminated along with the concerns about product consistency. An added benefit to this solution was a lower total cost to the medical device OEM due to the reduction of scrap and the elimination of a secondary deburring process.
